Insulated tool – a guarantee of safe operation
Repair of electrical networks and equipment with connected power is always accompanied by an increased risk. To ensure the required level of security when repairing electrics, there is a special class of hand tools – insulated tools (also called dielectric).
Features dielectric tool
Insulated toolmakers are nippers, pliers, keys, screwdrivers, etc., which are characterized by high electrical resistance. This is achieved thanks to the special materials used in the manufacture of tool handles. Dielectric tool is relevant for professional electricians, electricians in residential premises and at enterprises earning repair, and for people who periodically independently repair the electrical network at home or in the country.
All professional tools with insulated handles must be thoroughly tested for resistance according to DIN EN 60900 (IEC 60900: 2004) before being released from production. The insulated tool is fixed on a special conveyor that lowers the insulated handle of the product into the electrolyte solution, after which the pool is given a discharge exceeding the stated resistance by a factor of 10 (usually 10 thousand volts). Special electrodes during the test track the possible passage of current. Products that pass this test go on sale (under a special VDE 1000V mark), the tools that have missed the current are considered defective and are sent for scrap. This approach helps to maintain the quality and safety of insulated tools with dielectric knobs at a truly high level.
