This system, in simple terms, is responsible for cooling the motor. The purpose of the cooling system is to maintain the optimum thermal state of the engine by removing excess heat from the parts and supplying a cooling medium to them.

Depressurization of the cooling system is a problem that occurs most often. It leads to leakage of coolant, the formation of air plugs and other troubles. As a result, the cooling system stops normal functioning and cannot cope with its tasks.

We recommend using professional equipment to check tightness. With the help of testers of the tightness of the cooling system, you can check: expansion tank, radiator, cylinder head gasket, water pump, plugs, connections and hoses.

The radiator is connected to a special equipped manometer. device that creates pressure in the system. Most of the devices for testing the tightness of the cooling system are designed for universal use, so they are completed with adapters for cars of various manufacturers. There are devices for specific brands – BMW, Mercedes, VW, Audi, etc. The use of this equipment for other brands and models is possible with the use of special cone-shaped adapters.

The pump creates a working pressure, the value of which is indicated on the radiator cap or in the technical specification. If the gauge needle does not fall and the readings are stable, then the cooling system is tight and working properly. External leaks immediately manifest themselves, but with the internal situation is somewhat more complicated. The coolant can flow not only outwards, but also into the engine, in which case a thorough diagnosis will be carried out.

Also check the pressure relief valve installed in the stopper of the expander tank and radiator. When the pressure exceeds the allowable rate, it should be released and return to the working indicator. If this does not occur, the pipes and the radiator may be damaged. Reduced pressure system operation is another symptom of this part’s malfunction.
Included with this equipment is a pump with a pressure gauge, adapters for different size plugs and a thermometer. First of all, the pump is connected to the cork. Pressure is applied at which the valve should operate. If this does not occur, or the pressure is not kept at all in the system (watch the indicators of the pressure gauge), urgently change the defective part.
